Four EDC Videos Honored with Awards at NSF STEM For All Video Showcase

Four videos by EDC teams won awards in the 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM For All Video Showcase held on May 10–17. This year’s showcase featured 267 videos viewed by over 56,268 visitors from 155 countries.
Eighteen EDC STEM education researchers, instructional designers, and professional developers produced the four videos, all of which spotlight projects that are working to improve the quality and equity of STEM learning. All four videos also feature insights from students and/or educators engaged in the projects.
The four award-winning videos follow:
- Math+C: Mathematics Through Programming in Grades 2–5 (lead presenter Deborah Spencer) received two awards: Public Choice and Presenters’ Choice. The video shares the Math+C team’s work to engage elementary students in programming to help them learn and do mathematics. Learn more about EDC’s elementary mathematics work and explore the mini-units and microworlds that the team has developed.
- WeatherX: Building Data Literacy among Rural Youth (lead presenter Josephine Louie) received a Facilitators’ Choice award. The video highlights the WeatherX team’s work to promote data skills among rural students in grades 6–8 by engaging them in investigations of weather and climate. This work has a special focus on fostering interest and skills in scientific data practices among students in low-income areas. Learn more about WeatherX.
- Math for All: Understanding How Diverse Students Learn (lead presenter Babette Moeller) received a Facilitators’ Choice award. The Math for All professional development program featured in the video helps teachers better understand how individual students learn mathematics and supports teachers in planning more accessible lessons. - Engineering and Empathy in Pre-K and K (co-presenters Melissa Higgins and Michelle Cerrone) received a Presenters’ Choice award. This video explores a project that engages Boston Children’s Museum, EDC, and pre-kindergarten and kindergarten educators in collaborating to co-design activities that integrate engineering and empathy.
