Alex Long is an EDC training and technical assistance (TA) specialist with extensive expertise in promoting mental health and well-being. He is a certified Master Resilience Trainer, master trainer in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and Adult Mental Health First Aid trainer. His interests include developing sustainable policies and procedures for implementing suicide prevention programming and incorporating data to inform best practices and new initiatives.

Long provides military suicide prevention and risk data analysis TA in support of Policy Research Associates’ leadership of the Service Members, Veterans, and their Families TA Center. Before joining EDC, Long was an officer in the U.S. Army, serving as the National Guard Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the National Guard Bureau. In this capacity, he oversaw the National Guard Suicide Prevention Program for 54 states and territories. He was instrumental in the re-design of the Army’s Ask Care Escort-Suicide Intervention course and had a key role in updating the Army’s health promotion regulation.

Long holds a BS in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Administration from the University of New Haven.
