Heroin Addiction Recovery Peer Support Group Leader Training Project

Heroin is the most commonly used illicit drug in Vietnam. In support of the work of Family Health International (FHI) in Vietnam, EDC is providing training and technical assistance on group facilitation skills to leaders of peer-support groups for recovering heroin addicts.

This project aims to:

  • Use research-based principles of addiction recovery to adapt effective peer-support group models to create a new, culturally appropriate, national model for Vietnam
  • Partner with other nongovernmental organizations operating in the region
  • Train trainers in the new support group model
  • Foster the development of ongoing social support for recovering heroin addicts

EDC Project Director: Jim Vetter

Duration: 2011–2012

Funders: U.S. Department of State, Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs

(EDC is a subcontractor on this project to Alvarez & Associates, LLC.)
