Green Fab Evaluation

Although green technology is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, studies have shown an alarming lack of qualified professionals in this field. GreenFab: Sustainable Design through Engineering and Technology, an academic enrichment program, seeks to address this imbalance.

GreenFab is designed to:

  • Teach STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts to students through hands-on, project-based learning activities
  • Emphasize career development in the field of sustainable technologies, or “green collar” jobs
  • Serve up to 160 students

The three-year program consists of semester-length afterschool classes, during which students will explore a variety of technology and engineering skill sets, including:

  • Sustainable practices
  • Industrial design
  • Prototyping
  • Small-scale manufacturing (as it relates to providing environmentally innovative solutions to a community’s needs)

All modules will incorporate NETS Technology Standards, NSTA National Science Standards, and 21st Century Learning Skills. EDC’s Center for Children and Technology will provide research and evaluation support for the program.
