Although green technology is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, studies have shown an alarming lack of qualified professionals in this field. GreenFab: Sustainable Design through Engineering and Technology, an academic enrichment program, seeks to address this imbalance.
GreenFab is designed to:
- Teach STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts to students through hands-on, project-based learning activities
- Emphasize career development in the field of sustainable technologies, or “green collar” jobs
- Serve up to 160 students
The three-year program consists of semester-length afterschool classes, during which students will explore a variety of technology and engineering skill sets, including:
- Sustainable practices
- Industrial design
- Prototyping
- Small-scale manufacturing (as it relates to providing environmentally innovative solutions to a community’s needs)
