Newspaper supplements - what a great idea. Here in Rochester we have some
terrific NIE supplements that come out periodically. I'm not sure how they
actually evolve, but I think they are sponsored by local companies.
Teachers can request free sets and I know they are used and appreciated.
Here are the phone numbers of the Rochester Newspaper in Education
Coordinator (Adele Coelho): 716-259-2295 or 1-800-767-7539 ext. 2295
Mailing address is Democrat and Chronicle; Newspaper in Education
Department, c/o Adele Coelho, 55 Exchange Blvd., Rochester, NY 14614!
I went to the Rochester web site:
            http://www.DemocratandChronicle.com/nie/index.html
and found the following info under the "sponsors" category.

    What's An Educational Supplement?

It is a unique opportunity for your company to select a topic of
interest and educate area students about it.

Each 16-page supplement is accompanied by that day's Democrat and
Chronicle and is filled with real life experience and
    hands on activities.

You select the topic and we'll do the rest! We will write, print,
promote and distribute them to area students.

    What Are The Sponsors Benefits?

A 6?-by-10 inch supplement promotional ad appears in the the Democrat
and Chronicle at least one time.
You will be thanked for your support with a full page color thank you ad
    on the back cover.
Your company logo on the front cover, across the top of each inside page
    and on the back cover.
Full color availability on the front cover, center spread and back page.
We will special tailor a supplement to suit your needs or you may select
    a prepared topic.
Printed on our new state-of-the-art presses giving you high quality
    reproduction.
      Educational involvement in our community.

    What's The Cost?

The cost factor per set (supplement inserted into the Democrat and
Chronicle newspaper) is reduced as the sponsored
    number increases:

      Total Supplement Sets
                                       Cost Per Student
                                                               Total Program
    Cost
      20,000
                                       .30
                                                               $6,000
      30,000
                                       .29
                                                               $8,700
      40,000
                                       .28
                                                               $11,200
      50,000
                                       .27
                                                               $13,500

A full-page color ad on the back cover is available for an additional $750.
