Yes Judith,
You are absolutely correct! I was confusing the Learning Page, which
I feel is ok, with the AM page, which makes me yearn for the one I
first encountered when first getting to know the AM collections. I
still vote for the old AM setup, but that is just one vote.
I was at a conference at Yale to plan for a seminar between our school
district and UCI modeled after the Yale-New Haven project. I've been
invited to attend one of their summer intensive courses, and during a
suggestion session, asked them to look at the AMF discussion format as
a model for them to have preseminar discussions. They are looking at
it closely and so is our collaboration in So Cal.
Finally, one of my classes did an interview of one of our art teachers
whose class last year painted a mural on one of the walls near a
beautiful garden we have. Many students asked many questions which
led to about a 40 minute interview. We video taped it, took some dig
camera shots and I assigned students in all classes (who were able to
watch the interview from the video) as a final project for the first
semester to write an essay, short story, poem or illustrate something
in relation to the interview. I got some really creative stuff.
Marilyn and I are in the process of setting it up a website similar to
Duke University's DoubleTake Magazine (see my lesson plans for URL).
We will publish online photos, creative works and portions of the
interview, hopefully, within 2-3 weeks or anyway once we figure out
what we're doing.
The new Ronald Reagan federal building was completed just a few months
ago and M and I went to look at the new mural which has the history of
Santa Ana and Orange Co (honest, I didn't know this when I was working
on my project last summer). We will use that as a springboard for
future editions of our Ejournal which we've entitled SAHs AltaVista:
An Electronic Journal.
