Subject: Welcome and Guidelins Message
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Y'all

In preparation for adding AMF Class of '99 to this discussion group, I
found myself updating the "Welcome and Guidelines" message. You may recall
that the Listserv software sent you this message when you were first added
to this discussion group. You were advised to save it, but we all know
that stuff happens -- backups don't, disks crash, oops, etc. I also added
a few things that we've discussed online (like the web-based archive) to
this year's message. So I thought it might be nice to send you all the new
welcome message, too. Besides last week at the Institute, Kathleen Ferenz
(AMF '97) suggested it.

After I send this message, the next thing I'll do is to add the 50 new
fellows to this group.

So, here's that welcome and guidelines message.

Betty

Welcome to AMfellows, the listserv for American Memory Fellows.
Save this message; you may find this information valuable later.

Subscribers include American Memory Fellows, CCT facilitators,
and selected Library of Congress staff members. To send a message
to all of the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to
AMFELLOWS@LOC.GOV. This is called "sending mail to the list,"
because you send mail to a single address and the LISTSERV
software makes copies for all the people listed above. This address
is also called the "list address."

Send comments, problems, and questions about the list to the
moderator, Elizabeth Brown (Betty): moderator, Elizabeth Brown (Betty): ebro@loc.gov.

There is an archive from September 15, 1998 to present at this URL:

You can send "commands" to the listserv by sending mail to
LISTSERV@RS8.LOC.GOV. Leave the subject line blank, and place
the command in all upper case, in the first (and only) line of the text.
If you normally use a signature block, switch it off.

Please note that this is a different address than you use to send
messages. If you use the "list address," for commands, not only
will your command not work, you will also send a useless message
to nearly 200 other people.

Some commands you can send to LISTSERV@RS8.LOC.GOV:

SET AMFELLOWS NOMail
If you want to temporarily suspend Amfellows messages for vacation
or anticipated server down time.

SET AMFELLOWS Mail
To re-start Amfellows message delivery after time on "NOMail" status.

SET AMFELLOWS DIGests
To have your Amfellows messages delivered as one mail message a day.

SET AMFELLOWS NODIGests
To return to having Amfellows messages delivered individually.

SET AMFELLOWS REPRO
If you want to see the messages that you posted to the group.

SET AMFELLOWS ACK NOREPRO
If you want a short acknowledgement, instead of your own message.

SET AMFELLOWS ACK REPRO
If you want to receive both an acknowledgement and your own message.

SET AMFELLOWS NOACK NOREPRO
If you want neither acknowledgement nor your own messages.

GET AMFELLOWS LOGyymm
If you want to see all the messages from a given month (since Sept '97).
The month's messages will be sent to you in one email reply.
Note: replace "yy" and "mm" with the actual year and month you want.
For example, for July 1999, send the command:
GET AMFELLOWS LOG9907

INFO REFCARD
To get a list of other commands and information about them.
