I both agree and disagree. We have put the laptops in the classrom with
students facing each other and the teacher. In this way , we maintain the
seminar format for English classes and allow access to computers. Also
with the laptops, the teacher can say, "close your computers; we are now
going to discuss... " With the tops down, class can smoothly flow from
computer use to discussion and back again. the English teacher use the
laptops extensively for essay writing and editing. Also, with the
laptops, the teacher can decide whether the computers will be used that
day or not. If not, they stay locked in the cabinet or more to a
different room.
