Sarah Birkeland brings expertise in educator preparation, induction, and professional development, along with deep knowledge of developmental program evaluation and data-driven continuous improvement. She is committed to advancing equity and quality within American education. Currently, Sarah works with the Wallace Foundation on strengthening the preparation of school principals and co-leads the Teacher Preparation Research Alliance.

Birkeland has written on topics such as teacher certification and induction, coaching, and the influence of evaluation findings in decision-making. She has published articles in the New Educator, the American Education Research Journal, the American Journal of Evaluation, and ASCD Express, as well as book chapters and technical reports.

Birkeland holds an EdD from Harvard University, an MA from the University of Colorado Denver, and a BA from Stanford University.
