Kevin Waterman, EDC Senior Project Director, is an education R&D leader and STEM education expert. He leads, co-leads, and advances education R&D that supports translation of research to practice and builds capacity to significantly improve students’ learning and achievement. Kevin brings extensive expertise in mathematics education, computational thinking, digital literacy, and research project management.

As a key member of the REL Northeast & Islands at EDC team, Kevin advances work to address districts’ and schools’ pressing educational priorities. For the Region 2 Comprehensive Center, he contributed to the New York State Education Department’s Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards.

Kevin is a co-principal investigator (PI) of EDC’s IES-funded Changing Adolescents’ Reading Trajectories project. Previously, he was a co-PI of WeatherX, which has published findings in Science Scope and Connected Science Learning. As the project director for EDC’s efficacy study of Mission U.S., he co-authored an article about the team’s new assessment.

Kevin co-authored the book Linear Algebra and Geometry and was a core writer of CME Project, a four-year comprehensive high school mathematics program. He is the lead author of “Integrating Computational Thinking Into Elementary Science Education.”

Before joining EDC, Kevin was a Principal Systems Engineer at Lotus Development, a subsidiary of IBM, and director of product management at HighPoint Systems.

Kevin holds an MAT in Mathematics Education from Boston University and a BA in Mathematics from Trinity College. He received Project Management for Development Professionals Certification from the APM Group.
