Janna Kook, an experienced researcher and early childhood education expert, advances knowledge of effective strategies to enhance children’s learning in early childhood programs and at home. She is a co-developer of Lens on Science, a computer-based assessment of preschool science, and has published findings on fostering early science learning, executive functions in early learning, science readiness, and approaches to closing opportunity gaps for children from low-income communities.
Kook contributes her research experience to a wide range of EDC studies focused on educational improvement. She brings expertise in quantitative research methods—including quasi-experimental studies and randomized controlled trials—sampling, and administration of large-scale surveys. Her analytic expertise includes hierarchical linear modeling, structural equation modeling, factor analysis, and item-response theory.
She is engaged in research design, measure development, data analysis, and dissemination for Ready to Learn; has co-authored a REL Northeast & Islands at EDC report; and contributed to a study on science fairs.
Kook holds an MS and PhD in Applied Developmental Psychology from University of Miami and was an Institute of Education Sciences predoctoral fellow.
