Daniel Lavan is a researcher and evaluator with interests in education, child rights, and child work, particularly in Africa. Lavan serves as director of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) team in EDC’s International Development Division. He leads early-grade reading assessments in the field and provides technical leadership across IDD on evaluation and research design, project logic models and monitoring systems, and data collection instruments, including for measurement of non-cognitive skills and institutional capacity. Lavan regularly represents EDC at conferences and donor events and is active in IDD’s gender working group.

Lavan has full working proficiency in French. He holds a PhD in Organizational Studies in Education from the University of Ottawa.
