EDC a Partner in All Children Reading Competition

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced 14 winners from its 2015 All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development. EDC is a partner in two of the literacy innovations that won the challenge, which drew more than 200 proposals from 50 countries.

The two literacy innovations that involve EDC are based in Mali:

  • The Mali-based nongovernmental organization OMAES will work with EDC to produce reading materials for the Your Child, Reading and You (YCRY) project. This project will use EDC’s Stepping Stone mobile learning platform to create and distribute educational content in digital form with audio instructions.
  • The organization RARE will work with EDC and the Malian Ministry of National Education to use mobile technologies to strengthen training for teachers in schools with a bilingual curriculum. The project will offer teachers in low-resource schools the opportunity to see more experienced educators in action.

The All Children Reading Grand Challenge supports work to improve reading among children in early grades in developing countries. Established in 2011, the initiative is a partnership between USAID, World Vision, and the Australian government. EDC was a winning grantee in the 2012 competition for its work in the Philippines to enhance reading performance data collection.
