National Geographic has asked CCT to conduct an audit of its online educational resources, specifically its Xpeditions and National Geographic Education and Children’s Program Web assets, and make recommendations to guide their redesign. CCT will conduct a content analysis (e.g. topics, academic subjects and grade levels that lesson materials address; teaching strategies employed), and a media features analysis (e.g., media formats used–print, graphics, animation, video or photographs; and types of user interaction that are supported) to examine the offerings. CCT will also interview state education department officials in key states and hold focus groups with classroom teachers to better understand geography’s role in current curriculum requirements and frameworks as well as classroom practices. Based on this audit and research, CCT will make strategic recommendations to guide the redesign of these Web-based resources to align more closely with state standards and teachers’ classroom needs.
