The Mathematics Leadership Program is designed to help school systems provide coordinated professional development for educational leaders with a variety of roles and responsibilities. Teacher leaders and others who support elementary and middle school teachers’ professional development attend the Developing Mathematical Ideas Leadership (DMIL) Institute to work on facilitating DMI seminars. Elementary mathematics coaches attend the Professional Development for Coaching Institute to develop coaching skills and insights. School principals and other administrators attend the Lenses on Learning Institute to examine the administrator’s role as a leader in mathematics education. While all three institutes share the same goal — to strengthen mathematics teaching and learning by engaging in a process of inquiry into mathematics and student thinking — each is tailored to the roles and responsibilities of its audience.
