Exploring the American Past Project Evaluation

CCT is evaluating the implementation of a three-year project to provide at-risk middle and high school students with in-depth experiences in traditional American history, funded by a U.S. Department of Education Teaching American History grant. The New York City Department of Education, District 21; the City University of New York; Brooklyn Historical Society, the Brooklyn Museum; and the Museum of Television and Radio are collaborating on the program, which is designed to immerse teachers and supervisors from two highly diverse New York City school districts in the rigorous study of major events and themes with leading historians. The program also will engage them in a sustained and collaborative process of applying the knowledge gained into practice, with emphasis on improving their students’ literacy and their achievement in history.
