CCT is conducting an external evaluation of the Eastern Alliance in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (EAST), a five-year cooperative agreement to increase the number and diversity of students with disabilities receiving degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and ultimately entering STEM careers in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. To achieve these goals, EAST is offering and coordinating a variety of activities including undergraduate research fellowships, business internships, and mentoring and peer tutoring opportunities for students with disabilities; workshops and conferences for STEM educators; seed grants for innovative STEM activities at all educational levels; as well as extensive dissemination and outreach activities. Led by the University of Southern Maine and funded by the National Science Foundation, EAST partners include The Spurwink Institute, Springfield Technical Community College, Plymouth State University, Norwich University, Northern Rhode Island Collaborative, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
