The Enhanced Assessment project is a federally funded 18-month project that supports New England states in their development of large-scale assessments that address the needs of students with disabilities and English-language learners. The project works in five areas: (1) developing regional grade-level expectations; (2) developing a theoretical framework for incorporating universal design in large-scale assessments; (3) researching the impact of technology-based accommodations in large-scale assessments for students with disabilities and English-language learners; (4) developing a professional development model that works with teachers to incorporate grade-level expectations and universal design in to their classroom teaching and assessment; and (5) analyzing the effectiveness of the measures of Adequate Yearly Progress in identifying the needs of schools and of different populations within schools.
