Advocacy and Leadership Campaign to Advance Education Response to HIV/AIDS

EDC and UNESCO’s Office for the Caribbean launched the Advocacy and Leadership campaign in three Caribbean countries: Belize, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Its mission is to influence decision makers in the education sector to strengthen their response regarding HIV/AIDS. The campaign’s goals are to advocate for a comprehensive approach in the education sector to health promotion and the mitigation of the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic; to create a demand within the formal and informal education sector for technical know-how and financial resources for such an approach to be realized; to advance policies and programs that protect the lives of students, their teachers, and managers throughout the sector; and to promote inclusion of persons living with HIV. For the campaign, EDC has developed a Web site as well an advocacy toolkit that includes fact sheets, a work book, and a poster.
