Marvin J. Suomi

Marvin J. Suomi is chair emeritus of the EDC board of trustees and chair of the development committee. He is also chair of KUD International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kajima Corporation. Kajima is one of the largest construction-related service companies in the world.

Suomi has worked in government service as well as business. He is a committed supporter of the liberal arts and serves on the governing/advisory boards of the University of Michigan, Whittier College, Allegheny College, and California Lutheran University. Formerly, he was a charter trustee and visiting fellow of The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and a board fellow at Drew University. Suomi is chair of LA’S BEST After School Enrichment Program, which serves 28,000 students daily. He was instrumental in establishing the Center for Hmong Studies at Concordia University, where he was presented Doctor of Humane Letters.

In 2009, Suomi was decorated by the Republic of Finland as Knight, First Class, in the Order of the Lion of Finland for his efforts in advancing educational opportunities in the United States and abroad.

Suomi is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Princeton University.
