It is estimated that one person in four will struggle with a mental health issue during their lifetime. To share strategies for preventing mental illness and promoting mental health, EDC will co-host a global forum November 17–19, 2010, in Washington, D.C.
The Sixth World Conference on the Promotion of Mental Health and Prevention of Mental and Behavioral Disorders is co-sponsored by the Carter Center, Clifford Beers Foundation, and the World Federation for Mental Health.
During the conference, experts from more than 30 countries will present research on inequities in prevention and treatment; provide information about factors that influence mental health, such as poverty and access to care; and highlight effective strategies used around the world.
Here, EDC’s Jerry Reed discusses the critical importance of promoting mental health, and his hopes for the gathering in November.
