EDC Awarded Head Start National Center on Program Management and Fiscal Operations

NEWTON, MA | October 19, 2011

EDC has been selected by the Administration for Children and Families, Office of Head Start (OHS), to receive $16 million over four years to lead its National Center on Program Management and Fiscal Operations. EDC will partner with Case Western Reserve University and The Finance Project to strengthen the management and fiscal practices of hundreds of Head Start and Early Head Start programs throughout the country.

The center will showcase best practices in program and fiscal planning, as well as address issues such as risk management, governance, data collection and analysis, and budgeting and cost allocation. Also, the center will help organizations strengthen their infrastructure to better support a well-managed system of early care and education.

“EDC has a long and distinguished history of working closely with Head Start at the national, regional, and local levels,” said Joanne Brady, EDC senior vice president and director of its Learning and Teaching Division. “We are pleased to be recognized for our experience and expertise and our relationships in the early childhood community.”

With the new award, EDC will be leading significant initiatives in three of the six Head Start national technical assistance centers, which include the National Center for Linguistic and Cultural Responsiveness and the Center on Health. All three of the centers will support and promote improvement and innovation in Head Start classrooms across the country.

Launched in 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, Head Start provides comprehensive early childhood services to children from low-income backgrounds. Each year, Head Start serves 1 million children and their families during the critical early years of their children’s development.
