EDC Appoints Larry Lai Senior Vice President for International Division

NEWTON, MA | August 10, 2010

Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), today announced the appointment of Larry Lai as senior vice president and managing director of its International Development Division. The division designs programs to improve teaching and learning worldwide, collaborating with governments, agencies, and local partners in 35 countries.

Lai will oversee program operations and implementation for the division, while Senior Vice President and Division Director Mike Laflin will concentrate on new international program development and provide the strategic direction for EDC’s burgeoning international development work.

“Our international program work in basic education, innovative technology, and youth development is a fast-growing segment of EDC,” said President and CEO Luther Luedtke. “Given the size and importance to EDC of our international work, Larry’s management skills and deep experience in global development will be especially valuable as he takes on this new role.”

Lai joins EDC from Creative Associates International, where he served in a similar capacity. He has also worked with the Institute of International Education, World Environment Center, and the Science Applications and International Corporation. Lai has 30 years of professional experience, primarily addressing development issues relating to the environment and education with a focus on Asia and Africa.

Lai holds a degree in biology and a master of science in environmental engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

He lives with his wife Patty in Arlington, Virginia.
