NEWTON, MA | June 12, 2009

EDC’s 2007 Annual Report, “Tangible Results” has received the prestigious Beacon Award for Excellence in Education Marketing, the top prize bestowed by the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP), a national association whose members include publishers, schools, universities, researchers and nonprofit organizations.

EDC’s Annual Report was selected from dozens of annual reports submitted from both for-profit and non-profit organizations around the country. The award, given “for excellence in education marketing” was announced and presented to EDC Director of Communications Daphne Northrop during a luncheon ceremony June 12th at AEP’s Annual Summit in Washington, DC.

The Beacon Awards recognize marketing products in 11 categories, including annual reports, brochures, catalogs, digital and email marketing. Beacon winners, which included The Wall Street Journal, Corwin Press, and Suffolk University, are judged on design and editorial quality, efficacy in reaching intended audience, and overall cohesiveness.

EDC’s winning “Tangible Results” featured examples of domestic work, including research on teacher retention, mathematics learning and teaching, and student mental health promotion. It also includes several international projects which focus HIV/AIDS education in the Caribbean, technology in learning programs in 30 countries, student use of new media around the world, and youth development initiatives in the West Bank.

For more than four decades the AEP Awards have honored outstanding resources for teaching and learning. EDC’s 2004 Annual Report, “Portraits of Learning in Action” is a previous Beacon Award winner.
