EDC’s Center for Children and Technology has received one of 19 innovative program awards in the latest round of the Next Generation Learning Challenges, which announced $7 million in funding to help students master 7th- to 9th-grade-level math and reading content. The grants will support programs designed to help students achieve competencies aligned with the Common Core State Standards—state-approved guidelines that establish what students need to learn for success in college and in life.
EDC’s $250,000 award will expand, scale, and test a set of digital games and activities built on Portable Wordplay, a current project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that is supporting the development of two games for the Nintendo DS system.
