Challenge
With the demand for skilled technical talent far outpacing available supply, developing a 21st century workforce is one of the greatest educational challenges facing schools in the United States today.
From its inception, EDC has been committed to promoting STEM education to meet the needs of both students and the workforce. Currently, EDC is evaluating the STEM program Introduction to Coding, Robotics, Eletcronics And Technology (iCREAT). Led by MassBay Community College, iCREAT is developing a model for community colleges that couples interdisciplinary course work with an online mentoring platform. The target audiences for iCREAT are high school and community college students interested in STEM careers.
Key Activities
To determine iCREAT’s effectiveness, EDC is conducting the following evaluation tasks:
- Running focus groups and interview with iCREAT students and mentors
- Providing formative feedback to the iCREAT project team about the mentoring experience and the ways in which the project is progressing toward meeting its goals
