Training and Technical Assistance

Many EDC projects improve the lives of children by supporting the organization and institutions that serve them and their families. In partnership with state and federal agencies, schools, nonprofit organizations, universities, and national associations, we offer training, support community-building efforts, and develop family involvement in schools and communities.

Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (SEDL) Consultation

EDC serves as technology advisor in the development of an online toolkit designed to aid afterschool educators in the integration of technology and academic content. SEDL’s technical assistance effort is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to support their 21st Century Community Learning Center program, a $1 billion effort to fund afterschool programming.

YouthLearn Fee for Service

EDC offers youth development professionals and educators comprehensive services and resources for using technology to create exciting learning environments. Created by the Morino Institute and now led by EDC, YouthLearn provides user-friendly tools to help organizational leaders and staff start or strengthen afterschool and in-school programs.

Healthy Child Care Consultant Network Support Center (NSC)

CC&F is supporting the goals of Healthy Child Care America by strengthening states’ networks of Child Care Health Consultants (CCHCs). CCHCs provide consultation to local child care programs on health and safety in child care settings and the importance of access to health insurance and medical homes for children. The project hosts a national CCHC registry, including profiles of the status of each state’s current training, funding, and use of CCHCs.

Rhode Island Corrective Action Intervention Project

Working with the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Office of Progressive Support and Intervention, EDC supports middle and high schools identified as “in need of corrective action” (i.e., they have not met Adequate Yearly Progress standards for three years). EDC Turnaround Facilitators work on-site in assigned schools two days a week, providing leadership and teacher development aimed at instructional improvement and student achievement. Project staff also give RIDE staff feedback and recommendations to improve services to districts and schools.

EQUIP3/Bangladesh Youth Employment Pilot

The Bangladesh Youth Employment Pilot (BYEP) is an EQUIP3 Associate Award that focuses on the challenges and opportunities for improved vocational skills for youth in the fast-growing aquaculture industry. BYEP uses a youth-centered approach designed to add value to the golda (fresh water prawn) industry and provide education and employment opportunities for young women and men. The youth whom the BYEP project will place in work situations will also learn skills, such as literacy and numeracy, needed to support their long-term economic and social development.

EQUIP3/Shaqodoon: Somalia Youth Livelihood Program

The Shaqodoon program was created to provide Somali youth with greater access to training, internships, work and self-employment opportunities in order to productively engage youth and add to the stability and development of the region. Shaqodoon is Somali for “jobseekers”.

EQUIP3/Rwanda Youth Opportunity Network

The Rwanda Youth Opportunity Network (RYON), an EQUIP3 Associate Award, aims to develop a thriving youth livelihood support system in Rwanda to increase the prosperity of not only youth, but also the public and private institutions that support and benefit from youths’ productive engagement in Rwandan society. To achieve this goal, RYON will provide youth in Kigali with market-relevant life and work readiness training and support, hands-on training opportunities, and links into the employment and self-employment job market.

EQUIP3/Garissa Youth Project

Designed to respond to Garissan youths’ needs and assets, the Garissa Youth Project (G-Youth Project) aims to empower youth to make sound career and life decisions as they transition from high school to the next phase of their lives. The project is also building the capacity of local institutions and networks to sustain the much-needed services that G-Youth will provide.

Excellence in Innovation Project

The Excellence in Innovation project identifies “high impact” information and communications technologies (ICTs) that can quickly and significantly strengthen the competitiveness of target industries. The project co-invests with local entrepreneurs to create self-sustainable “e-BIZ Enterprises,” which offer the high impact ICT services at affordable prices to all businesses in a target industry. The goal: more competitive and profitable small and medium enterprises, more and better jobs, high levels of local co-investment and foreign direct investment.
