Infusing Equity into
Policy and Practice:
A Course for Equity Specialists

Professional Development Opportunity

Here’s an exciting opportunity to participate in a new online course for equity specialists (Title IX coordinator, gender equity specialist or equal opportunity officer) in a school, school district, or state agency. Course participants will:

  • explore the history and rationale for Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
  • learn about current research on continuing and emerging educational equity issues
  • learn the basic role and responsibilities of a Title IX officer and a framework for carrying out these duties
  • assess the status of Title IX implementation and gender equity efforts in your institution and develop a customized action plan to address your needs
  • learn strategies for building support for equity within your institution and in the larger community

Whether you are new to the job or have years of experience, this course is for you!

Course Sessions
Hands-on Technology Tutorial
Session 1: Title IX and Gender Equity
Session 2: Federal, State and Local Roles in Achieving Equity
Session 3: Compliance with Title IX
Session 4: Responsibilities of the Title IX Coordinator
Session 5: Implementing the Title IX Grievance Procedure
Session 6: Action for Change
Session 7: Presentation of Action Plans

Equipment: All you need to participate is access to the Internet, an e-mail address, and your commitment to learning more about Title IX.

Course length 8 weeks
Course commitments a minimum of 3 times per week for a total of 3 hours per session; complete and post a required final activity; and participate in an ongoing evaluation of the course.
Professional Development Points

For information on requirements for professional development points in your state, contact your district or state education department.

College Credit

Participants seeking course credit can receive 1 graduate college credit through Antioch University for this course. To enroll for course credit, please indicate where appropriate on the registration form and include an additional $40 (per person) as part of your payment. In addition to regular course requirements, there are other specific requirements for the final project if you choose this option. Please contact us for more details.
