New IDEA Practices website & regulations

Final Regulations to the IDEA '97 Ammendments (the special education
legislation), released on March 12. The IDEA Practices web site has developed
some very innovative and user-friendly formats for navigating through the
regulations and its supporting resources.

NEW FORMATS OF THE IDEA '97 FINAL REGULATIONS NOW AVAILABLE
ON THE IDEA PRACTICES WEB SITE!!!

The IDEA Practices web site, developed by Education Development Center, Inc. for
the ASPIIRE and ILIAD projects, has posted the IDEA '97 Final Regulations in
multiple formats, in order to make reading, downloading, searching, and
navigating these documents more efficient and user-friendly.

On the IDEA Practices web site, http://www.ideapractices.org you'll find:

*A Web-enhanced HTML version of the IDEA '97 Final Regulations with a fully
linked navigation bar and table of contents, to navigate through the Regulations
quickly and easily

*A linked glossary of definitions of terms and acronyms used in the Regulations

*Several different word processing formats of the Final Regulations, including
Microsoft Word 97, 6.0 & 5.1 for Mac,and WordPerfect 5.x. These documents have
been reformatted for easier reading. They are available as one large document,
as well as divided into 8 separate document files: the Preamble, Part B
Regulations, Appendix A, Appendix B, Part C Regulations, and Attachments 1, 2,
and 3.

*Text and PDF versions of the Final Regulations available as a single document
including all 8 sections of the Final Regulations. We have also posted text and
PDF documents divided into the 8 sections (the Preamble, Part B Regulations,
Appendix A, Appendix B, Part C Regulations, and Attachments 1, 2, and 3).

*Additional materials prepared by OSEP, including an Overview of the
Regulations, Summary of Major Issues, Discipline Q & A's, Topic Briefs on 10
issues of key importance, and the text of the U.S. Dept of Ed Press Release, and
Issues of Importance to Teachers, Administrators, and Parents.

*Transcripts of the two OSEP telecasts "Guidance on Implementation of IDEA '97"
and links to the viewable archived broadcast video.

COMING SOON:

*Topical indexes--ASPIIRE and ILIAD are currently preparing a series of indexes
to the Final Regulations which will highlight sections related to specific
topics.

Check back often to see what new resources, formats, and features have been
posted.

ILIAD, ASPIIRE, and the IDEA Practices web site are continuing to develop and
post resources to support the dissemination and implementation of best practices
and strategies that work relating to the IDEA '97 Law and Regulations. Please
contact us if you have any suggestions for particular resources and/or formats
that would be of use to you.

The ASPIIRE and ILIAD projects are based at The Council for Exceptional
Children. They are two of the Linking Partnership Projects funded by the U.S.
Department of Educatin to support the implementatin of IDEA '97. The IDEA
Practices web site is developed and maintained by Education Development Center,
Inc.
