We should also be talking about the fact that girls are not allowed to go
to school in Afghanistan under the Taliban after the age of eight. We
should be explaining that this is part of the reason why we treasure
education here, because it is free
to all. And we should be asking people to make sure that not only are women
and girls freed of such life-crippling strictures in Afghanistan, but also
that the education be made a part of the welcome they are given in all
refugee camps.
