Information on Gender Equity Expert Panel's "Good Resources" posted on WEEA
Equity Resource Center site

WEEA has posted on our website (http://www.edc.org/WomensEquity) the list
of "Good Resources" identified by the U.S. Department of Education's Gender
Equity Expert Panel. In addition, links to information about the one
Exemplary Program and ten Promising Programs designated by the panel are
provided.

These field-tested and peer-reviewed materials include six related to
prevention of sexual and racial harassment, two focused on disability and
gender, and two that look at teacher education.

The Gender Equity Expert Panel was first convened in 1996 to identify
promising and exemplary programs or interventions that promote gender
equity in and through education. It was hoped that educators and community
members could make better-informed decisions about effective ways to
encourage gender equity and counteract gender inequities and discrimination
based on identification of these best practices. In July 2000 the
30-member panel announced its findings.

In the process of identifying exemplary and promising programs, the panel
decided to create a new category called "good resources" to cover
submissions such as videotapes and survey instruments that would not be
expected to yield evidence of positive impact or effectiveness--one of the
four criteria required to be designated as promising or exemplary by the
Education Secretary. These resources, however, were judged good on the
other criteria of quality, significance, and replicability or usefulness to
others.

We encourage you to review and share this important information!
