Thanks for all of your help and for your quick response. Your commentary
was
excellent and very helpful. I had read the Phelan and Yu study already, and
I
actually have been reading so much that I know I am growing from all of it!

I am looking at the difficulties newcomers face as they struggle to find
their way, and how schools can help in the process of acculturation (by
creating an environment of acceptance that values culture and language of
these children...According to Cummins, additive rather than subtractive.)
At this point, I am creating a Teachers Guidebook for my thesis project. In

this book, I am actually focusing on what classroom teachers can do to help

newcomers as they adjust themselves to a new country, new culture, new
reality. I am particularly on concentrating on the affective domain. I am
trying
to identify specific actions that teachers can take or "best practices" if
you
will.

Anyway, if you have any information about that or if you , please let me
know. I would love to include you as a resource in my project.
