MEDIA EDUCATION RESEARCH PROJECT

Welcome to the Media Education Research Project site!

The research we're doing here at CCT on media education is formative, which means we are trying to figure out how to do it rather than evaluating what others do. We look forward to hearing thoughts from teachers, parents, and educators about their experiences with media education in schools. If you are interested or concerned with the complex issues that surround the integration of media and new technologies with a critical eye into your classroom or library, read on!

More and more, the presence of media and technology in classrooms faces teachers with the daunting task of integrating them into their curricula. Excited by the potential, but also concerned with what to do with it, teachers are looking for support, strategies and tools. For some, media education is a helpful framework for pulling technology and critical thinking together in classroom practice.

By doing formative research, we hope to gain insight into what media education is and how it can support teaching and learning in schools. We want to know what teachers are doing and thinking about, from implementing media literacy to developing student produced media projects. We want to understand the issues and challenges teachers have to contend with while not only working to integrate new media, but teaching about it in critical ways.
