(TR5) Domain Projects as Assessment Vehicles in a Computer-Rich Environment

This paper provides an overview of assessment research recently conducted at Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The authors summarize the theory of multiple intelligences, which provides the conceptual underpinnings for their understanding of assessment, and then review different types of domain projects currently being developed. The assessment techniques discussed document student growth and learning over time and across a wide range of skills, and encourage students' self-assessment. Views of assessment described in this paper are also discussed in Frederiksen & Collins, A Systems Approach to Educational Testing.
