Subject: Update: Henry Hikes to Fitchburg
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hello,

As I mentioned in a previous email, my colleague and I created an
activity around the book Henry Hikes to Fitchburg by D.B. Johnson. We used
several photographs from the Library of Congress - Emerson, Hawthorne,
Thoreau, their homes, etc. We got so involved that we decided to take a
trip to Concord and walk in the footsteps of these great literary figures.
We had a wonderful time learning interesting tidbits that we incorporated
into the site. The Concord Free Public Library allowed us to use two
photographs from the Hosmer collection - one the interior furnishings of
Thoreau's cabin and two Thoreau's flute, telescope, and ornithology book by
Alexander Wilson. We also took a lot of photographs. One of the photos we
took is a statue of Emerson sitting in a chair created by Daniel Chester
French who also created the Lincoln Memorial. May Alcott, Louisa May's
sister, gave French his first sculpting lessons. The fastest way to browse
the material is to click on Links, then on an individual biography. To see
the pictures we took, click on Concord Gallery under Town Profiles. Finally
to see photos of our teacher workshop, click on Teachers, then workshop.
