Hi all -
One of our history teachers showed me a book he just purchased, which is,
in my opinion, a must-have for any self-respecting history teacher. It's
produced by the makers of The Onion, a satirical newspaper which can be
found online at http://www.theonion.com/. The book is called Our Dumb
Century, edited by Scott Dikkers, New York: Three Rivers Press, 1999, ISBN
0-609-80461-8. There's a page for each year of the century, with
scintillating headlines like: "Pure Food and Drug Act Will Limit Human
Thumb Levels in Meat" and "World's Largest Metaphor Hits Ice-Berg." The
