To Judy, Peter, and all,
I just posted the newest version of The Grandparent Project that Deborah
and I worked on over the summer. We have now tested the project out with
4 classes . We are in the final stages of the research papers--the
students have handed in their rough drafts and are giving their "orals"--
as an expert, they present their project to the class, receive questions,
comments, and suggestions for their final papers. As part of the
presentation, they must have some type of visual (can be poster, artifact
(e.g. old clothing), video, or even food)
Over the past few days, we have all learned about the following:
--the strategy of Rommel, the Desert Fox (presented with poster)
--the development of toys (e.g. Barbie, Play Doh, Silly Putty, Frisbee)
and the use of marketing (presented with poster)
--Frank Sinatra's early career (presented with a poster and CD song)
--the development of Suburbia (presented with a digital slideshow and the
serving by the designated "housewife" of milk and homemade cookies)
--the Children of the Holocaust (presented with poster and video taken by
father at Auschwitz)
--Chevrolets in Racing competition and the production of the Corvette
(presented with poster and photos from grandmother who worked for
Chevrolet)
--Baseball during the Depression with an emphasis on the Yankees and the
start of Ladies Day (presented with poster and video of Babe Ruth)
--Fashion changes from the 30's to the 40's (presented with "fashion book"
poster and grandmother's clothes
It has been fascinating. We have all learned. And, the students are
gaining new skills each day.
