Use of the America Memory Collection and Harper Weekly to enhance students'
understanding of political cartoons and the historical events, individuals
and debates revolving around Secession.
Objectives
Students will:
-
review and expand their knowledge of secession through the analysis
of political cartoons.

use primary sources to increase their understanding of the topic
of secession
-
work with a graphic organizer to take notes, compare and analyze
political cartoons
-
incorporate passages from Lincoln's Inaugural Address in the American Memory
collection to support their analysis
-
select photographs to depict secession from the Civil War Photographs collection
-
become familiar with historical music centering on secession
